Our News Letter

The Namibia Charcoal Association (NCA) currently runs an experimental project for improved kilns on the farm of Mr Jürgen Redecker near Okahandja. The different „retort“ type kilns are tested during the project. A retort kiln is a double wall kiln where the wood does not get direct fire but is baked. The advantage of this method is less harmful smoke emission and a better charcoal quality and yields. Ms Dagmar Honsbein is the specialist consultant at this project which is financed by the GIZ and will be completed by June 30, 2017.

A further project to which the NCA has committed itself, is the development of an own charcoal standard for Namibia instead of the very strict FCS standard which is required by European markets. The NCA hopes to also get support from the GIZ for this project.

Since March 1, 2017 the NCA functions as an Article 21 Company in Otjiwarongo. Their financial matters which were always handled by the NAU will now be done by themselves and for this purpose a bank account was opened. For any charcoal information, please contact the office in Otjiwarongo at Tel 067 304220, roelien.coffee@ncanamibia.com or visit their website at www.ncanamibia.com
